Wrapping comments in Neovim messed up by parentheses

Problem

Wrapping comments in Neovim gets messed up in the presence of parentheses. This happens with both auto wrapping and manual wrapping (gw).

MWE

This is what happens in a Python file (file.py):

# This is a test python comment with parentheses near the line break (this is
                                                                      # content
                                                                      # within
                                                                      # the
                                                                      # parens)
# you see what I mean?

Tried

I tried :set nocindent but that didn't have any effect.

Putting vim.opt.cindent = false in my config didn't work either.

Wrapping the same statement works fine in a .txt:

This is a test python comment with parentheses near the line break (this is
content within the parens) you see what I mean?

Want

Want auto wrapping and gw to produce:

# This is a test python comment with parentheses near the line break (this is
# content within the parens) you see what I mean?

Configuration

Using LunarVim with the following relevant settings in my config.lua:

vim.opt.tw = 80
vim.opt.wrap = true

System

Fedora 40
Neovim v0.10.1

It's working for me with Vim 9.1.600 using gw on the first example with the comment text all on one line. No special cindent or coption settings.

Tried it again, and now I'm getting the bell and no wrapping at all. Not sure what happened between last time and now.

How about now? Which behavior are you experiencing?

Michael‭ wrote 2 months ago

Still the bell. I don't know what I did the first time, sorry. It worked; I swear!

I realized I wasn't clear enough. I'm using Neovim. I just tested now in Vim 9.1 and it works. I'm looking for a solution for Neovim and, in particular, LunarVim. I will edit the original post.
