- There seems to be consensus on a few things:
- 1. These questions are off-topic on Software Dev and on-topic here.
2. A lot of questions were asked (and closed) on Software Dev before this community existed.- 3. One motivation for the request for a category is to prevent these questions (if migrated) from overwhelming other topics.
- There does not appear to be consensus for creating a category. As noted in another answer, the boundaries could be kind of fuzzy. By creating a category we risk fragmenting *future* questions and confusing people about where to ask.
- If the concern is about the effects of migrating a bunch of office-suite questions all at once, let's address *that*. They don't all have to be migrated (a) at all or (b) all at once. This community should decide what it wants to receive from Software Dev (all? only ones with positive score? something else?), and then we can work on a way to bring them in in batches so they don't all slam the Q&A category at once.
