  • I understand that with computer systems (non virtual or virtual), data between the network of 2 or more computer systems can _come in_ via a port and can _come out_ via a port.
  • Is it common to filter computer ports to work unidirectionally instead bidirectionally?
  • I mean, is it common to set firewall rules for ports to transfer data in only one direction (only inwards with incoming data or only outwards with outgoing data)?

Tags edited for clarification. This is about "ports" as specified by TCP. Not to be confused with physical ports, which can also be used to connect computers.

  • Is it common to filter computer ports to always work unidirectionally instead always bidirectionally?

Is it common to filter computer ports to work in one direction (instead bidirectionally)?
I understand that with computer systems (non virtual or virtual), data between the network of 2 or more computer systems can _come in_ via a port and can come out via a port.

Is it common to set firewall rules for a port to filter it to transfer data only in one direction (only inward from incoming data or only outward from outgoing data)?
