Maximise instead of full screen window
Are there any free (and preferably open source) methods to make the green window button maximise the window instead of going full screen?
(I know BetterTouchTools can do that, but this is no longer free. And I also know that there are other methods to maximise, like holding the option key down while using the button)

There is actually a little app to change the behaviour of the green button called "Right Zoom":

Caveat: The button will still go into full screen for most Adobe applications
