Using "Print using system dialogue" as default in Firefox

I'd like Firefox to automatically use the "Print using the system dialogue" setting:

Screenshot of the Firefox print dialogue

In older versions, I could use

print.tab_modal.enabled = false

in about:config to automatically get the normal system print dialogue, but this options no longer works in Firefox 97.

(in case it matters, my operation system is macOS 11.6)

Good news! With Firefox Nightly 102.0a1 there is now an option in about:config called

print.prefer_system_dialog

If this is set to true, the system print dialogue will be used automatically.

Oh Mozilla...

There are quite a few reports in Mozilla's bugzilla i could find about this feature being removed.

I particularly want to highlight a comment by R. Longson in one of these reports (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1755848#c2):

The preference print.tab_modal.enabled was removed before the expected replacement using an enterprise policy is ready. You can follow bug 1712104 for progress.

Thus, in my entirely subjective opinion, i would suggest to either switch back to an older Firefox version or wait for the policy-based solution (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1712104) mentioned in R. Longson's comment. If you choose the latter, i would additionally suggest to prepare a few coffee thermos', because who knows how long one would have to wait until Mozilla will come around implementing this... :-(

If the feature is important to you, it might perhaps help pushing things forward a little by politely making a stink in the related bugzilla issue (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1712104).
