As a workaround, one can use the open source application "stats" (https://github.com/exelban/stats) as a replacement for the mac battery indicator: ![screenshot of the battery indicator. The outline is in black and current battery level is indicated by a partial black filling. The background of the screenshot is light orange](https://powerusers.codidact.com/uploads/rprlyyw6kl5eclen0tlwh52smz1f) "stats" also allows various customisations, liking showing the remaining time, showing the percentage inside the battery symbol, changing the size of the symbol etc. Using such a powerful app just for the battery indicator might be a bit overkill, but at least one can clearly see the battery level. (the mac battery indicator can be switched off in `System settings`->`Control center`->`Battery`->`Show Battery in Menu Bar`)
