How to make an app immersive (fullscreen) in Android?

Is there a way to make an arbitrary app immersive in Android? That is, fullscreen with the status and navigation bars hidden.

A temporary solution would be the best. I'm thinking about a situation where you just want to focus fully on a note app for a while.

Screen pinning kinda achieves this, but it's a hassle to exit. (Need to unlock the device.) A lighter solution would work better.

Apps are fullscreen by default in Android, so perhaps you should ask your question differently. For example, are you asking how to make them immersive (hide the status bar and nav bar)? Or how to stop or hide notifications?

You're right, that is the correct term in Android, if not particularly clear. I'll add it to the question.
