You were probably not logged in. You can sometimes get logged out when something changes on your machine, you get to the site from a different machine, etc. The view is very similar, and often it's not immediately obvious. I usually only notice when features are missing. When this happens, take a look in in the top right corner. You will probably see an offer to log in, instead of your profile picture as usual.
