Welcome to the Power Users community on Codidact!

Power Users is a Q&A site for questions about the usage of computer software and hardware. We are still a small site and would like to grow, so please consider joining our community. We are looking forward to your questions and answers; they are the building blocks of a repository of knowledge we are building together.

Please don't presume cross posting from me.

I just want to respond to comments like this. That cross posting wasn't mine. I had never heard of solveforum.com before!

I agree completely with your paras. 3 and 4. Henceforward, I shall reasonably endeavor and effort to reference — on Codidact — cross posts by me. I apologize for not doing so far. But I cannot be responsible for scrapers as in elgonzo's comment.

And I didn't know imgur can be blocked!

  1. [. . .] I asked you several times if you are the same user, the only time I got an answer you stated that you are not the same user.

I never stated that I never cross posted on other websites though. For that particular question — but I can't remember which one now — I might not have been that same user?

  1. Your post feels one sided. You don't moot any advantages of "cross posting".

An unanswered question may be answered, or answered better on another. What about second opinions?

The url might not have been the best one to pick, but given that the question is verbatim the same as on other Q&A sites, I still think the presumption of a x-post is not so far fetched...

Comparison of the questions on codidact and superuser

There are several problem with these types of x-posts:

  1. Content which is not unique and also available on established sites is not good for the search engine ranking of codidact. This not only means that other people will less likely find your content here, it even means that other people are less likely to find the questions and answers of other codidact users, who spend considerable time and effort in creating unique and good quality content. It is hardly fair to drag other users contribution down just because you want to x-post on several sites.

  2. Then there is the issue of license. Reposting other peoples content here without attribution, which was first published elsewhere under a CC-by-SA license, is a violation of said license. I asked you several times if you are the same user, the only time I got an answer you stated that you are not the same user.

  3. X-posting also has the risk of wasting both the time of users who might put time and effort in answering a post, which already has an answer elsewhere, as well as the time of users who might have the same problem but can't find the solutions you might have gotten on one of the other platforms you posted x-posted your question.

  4. ... and some minor problems like not even bothering to move the included images to codidacts own image hosting facilities so they will be accessible for users who can't access imgur, which is blocked in some countries/schools/etc.

  5. It is not exactly good advertisement if you repost your codidact posts on forums on which they are blatantly off-topic, e.g. if you link to your etymology questions on forums for economics.
