Why might I be failing to connect to the eduroam network on Ubuntu 22.04?
My university, like many others, offers a connection to the eduroam infrastructure. I'm running Ubuntu 22.04 (LTS); unfortunately, the instructions provided by the institution for connecting to the network amount to "download this file for Windows and this file for Mac and then run it", so I don't have any specific institutional instructions for Linux-based systems.
I found instructions on a random other institution's site, which said to set the Security field to "WPA & WPA2 Enterprise", the Authentication field to Protected EAP (PEAP), leave Anonymous Identity blank, check the "not required" box for CA certificate, set the PEAP version field to "Automatic", the Inner Authentication field to "MSCHAPV2", and then use your institutional login (which according to my institution's instructions is the same as my login for specific other services which I have confirmed work).
I also tried setting the "Domain" field to my institution's domain, as well as leaving it blank.
This didn't work; when I tried to connect, my computer thought about it for a while and then asked me for my username and password again. This continued to happen with no success.
I then tried the eduroam CAT (Configuration Assistant Tool), which gave me an option to download the assistant specifically for Linux and specifically for my institution. I downloaded it, successfully ran the downloaded file with python3 in the terminal, and then followed the instructions on the helper (which basically amounted to confirming my username and password for the institution). The CAT script did provide a ca.pem file for the CA certificate, unlike the previous configuration, but to no avail - the same process of "it thinks for a bit and then asks for my password again" happens as without the CAT script.
What could be the issue here? Why might I be failing to connect to the eduroam system despite having the CAT script, my username and password, and the ability to connect to other networks?
