How to make an app immersive (fullscreen) in Android?

Is there a way to make an arbitrary app immersive in Android? That is, fullscreen with the status and navigation bars hidden.

A temporary solution would be the best. I'm thinking about a situation where you just want to focus fully on a note app for a while.

Screen pinning kinda achieves this, but it's a hassle to exit. (Need to unlock the device.) A lighter solution would work better.

There are several apps which allow the user to toggle immersive mode in Android. These may require root or the use of adb on a connected computer for the initial setup. Searching for "immersive mode" in the Play Store brings up 6 apps for me which say they perform this function (I haven't tested any of them).

The one I personally use is Xposed Edge, which requires root and is no longer available in the Play Store.

Alternately, screen pinning does have the option on my system not to require authentication to unpin: "Ask for PIN before unpinning" can be turned off. Then the recents gesture (gesture navigation) or holding back+recents (3-button navigation) unpins.

Disabling PIN to unpin is perfect! Didn't know this was possible.
