A: How can I command my Lenovo laptop — NOT a ThinkPad — to stop charging the battery, at a maximum cap level of my choice? Two possbilities: A firmware upgrade supports this feature. You can't. I also have a Lenovo laptop, purchased in 2018, and it does allow me to set the limit to charge to. Here is a screen shot of the Lenovo Vantage program: I leave mine set to 70% except when traveling where I mi... (more) |

I meant whatever is baked into your OS. The router can't block a particular program, but something running on your machine can. (more) |

A: Application check for updates will never succeed and blocks launch; can I intercept or bypass it? This isn't a direct answer to your question, but a suggestion. Try specifically disallowing internet access to this program in your firewall. That may cause the program to realize it can't get to the internet at all and to stop trying. It is unlikely that the writers of the software always requi... (more) |

A: How can I plug in both a microphone and speaker to a laptop with a single 3.5 mm jack? He sees just 2 3.5mm audio jacks — see my green arrows. Correct? No, clearly not. Since both holes are different sizes, at most one of them can be 3.5 mm. It's hard to tell absolute sizes in your picture, but if any of the two holes is 3.5 mm, it would be the left one. The right hole looks to... (more) |

A: What free, offline software for Windows 10 converts math in PDFs To MathJax? This is not a direct answer, but you can just copy the pixels. Scale the PDF so that the equation you want is nicely readable on your screen at a size appropriate for the Math site. Do a screen capture (usually something like Shift-PrintScreen), paste into some image editing software (Paint might w... (more) |

How to use GitHub Personal Access Token? I have repositories on GitHub, and have been using a user name and password to access them. All was working great. I could use various GIT commands on the command line, and GIT would automatically supply the password I entered once a long time ago. It saves this in a file in my personal directory.... (more) |

I expect the downvotes were for poorly asked or poorly researched questions, not because they were off topic. A large number of such questions showed up here in the last day, many making too many assumptions and missing obvious context. I think I only downvoted one of them, but did think about more... A: Why can't I add one line of space between text? Why does Word create useless white space in between, when I hit Enter? This is a guess, but it looks like the paragraph starting with "36" just fits on the page when there is no space above it. When you add the blank line, it doesn't fit anymore. There is probably a rule set somewhere that doesn't allow just a single line of a paragraph to be at the bottom of a page w... (more) |

Yeah, I remember some time in the 1990s when I could get a whole Gbyte for only $400. What a deal! I don't have to worry about cramped disk space anymore. A Gbyte will last nearly forever! (more) |

You make it sound like we're all just supposed to know what "OBS" is. That's not the best way to get help from volunteers. (more) |
