Answer A: How can I halt Windows from forthwith switching to Google Chrome, after I click on URLs on Skype?
This answer is to the question as originally asked, not what it was edited to several days after this answer was written. How do I halt this, so that Windows stays focussed on Skype? Don't click on the link! Clicking a link without any additional keys or unusual setup in just about any s...

Answer A: How can the total size of all frames of a video > that video's size?
Due to "compression". The video is highly compressed. Some of that compression makes use of the picture not changing much from one frame to another. When you extracted individual frames, such compression couldn't be applied.

Answer A: Distinguish like I'm 9 years old — Bit rate vs. Data rate?
Very briefly, bit rate is the rate at which individual bits are sent. Data rate is the rate at which data is effectively transferred. Not all bits carry data. Some are used for various out of band signalling purposes, like synchronizing both ends, delimiting bytes, indicating that there is curre...

Answer A: How to handle crossposts
Another one just showed up: How can I record 2 simultaneous Teams meetings, on the same computer, without audio cross interference? In this case, a mod found the duplicate and posted the link in a comment. I think the correct action would have been to close the question because of it being a cros...

Answer A: How to handle crossposts
This isn't really a license issue. You are assuming that the post was written elsewhere first, then copied here. However, since the same user posted all of them, we should assume that user wrote the post once locally, then copied that to all the sites. In any case, it's the user's IP, and the us...

Answer A: What should our take be on software recommendation questions?
Requesting recommendations for particular apps is not a good fit for this site. These are essentially "shopping questions", which are disallowed on other Q&A sites for good reasons. These reasons have been discussed at great length elsewhere, but briefly, the drawbacks of such questions are: The...

Comment Post #284876 This question is apparently about a particular software application, but you never said what that is. Or perhaps these words have particular meaning in some context, like type setting, which you also didn't specify. This really should be closed as unclear until the relevant context is provid...

Comment Post #284706 Whoever downvoted this, please explain what you think is wrong, misleading, or badly written. Silent downvotes do the site a disservice. The author doesn't know what to address, and other users don't know what shouldn't be believed.

Comment Post #284706 We are seeing the same problem here as there was on SE, which is silent downvotes for no apparent reason. If someone thinks this post is wrong or misleading, they should explain what that is. I can't fix what I don't know is wrong, and other's can't learn from a silent downvote either.

Answer A: Does Wireless receiver increase internet speed?
There is much confusion in this question. What you call "wireless driver" is apparently the built-in WiFi transceiver in your computer. If so, this has nothing to do with a driver. Whatever device you use to access WiFi will need a software component called a "driver". The thing suggested to yo...

Answer A: How can I, most effortlessly, whiten or white out yellow or brown Tint?
What you want to adjust is called the white balance. That's a very common issue, so I expect just about any image editing software has a feature to manipulate the white balance. I'm not familiar with Infranview or Gimp because I have my own image editor. I'll use it to demonstrate. Here is th...

Answer A: Unable to gave an upvote to Q or A
You were probably not logged in. You can sometimes get logged out when something changes on your machine, you get to the site from a different machine, etc. The view is very similar, and often it's not immediately obvious. I usually only notice when features are missing. When this happens, ta...

Answer A: How can I command my Lenovo laptop — NOT a ThinkPad — to stop charging the battery, at a maximum cap level of my choice?
Two possbilities: A firmware upgrade supports this feature. You can't. I also have a Lenovo laptop, purchased in 2018, and it does allow me to set the limit to charge to. Here is a screen shot of the Lenovo Vantage program: I leave mine set to 70% except when traveling where I mi...

Answer A: Application check for updates will never succeed and blocks launch; can I intercept or bypass it?
This isn't a direct answer to your question, but a suggestion. Try specifically disallowing internet access to this program in your firewall. That may cause the program to realize it can't get to the internet at all and to stop trying. It is unlikely that the writers of the software always requi...

Answer A: How can I plug in both a microphone and speaker to a laptop with a single 3.5 mm jack?
He sees just 2 3.5mm audio jacks — see my green arrows. Correct? No, clearly not. Since both holes are different sizes, at most one of them can be 3.5 mm. It's hard to tell absolute sizes in your picture, but if any of the two holes is 3.5 mm, it would be the left one. The right hole looks to...

Answer A: What free, offline software for Windows 10 converts math in PDFs To MathJax?
This is not a direct answer, but you can just copy the pixels. Scale the PDF so that the equation you want is nicely readable on your screen at a size appropriate for the Math site. Do a screen capture (usually something like Shift-PrintScreen), paste into some image editing software (Paint might w...

Question How to use GitHub Personal Access Token?
I have repositories on GitHub, and have been using a user name and password to access them. All was working great. I could use various GIT commands on the command line, and GIT would automatically supply the password I entered once a long time ago. It saves this in a file in my personal directory....

Comment Post #281860 I expect the downvotes were for poorly asked or poorly researched questions, not because they were off topic. A large number of such questions showed up here in the last day, many making too many assumptions and missing obvious context. I think I only downvoted one of them, but did think about more...

Answer A: Why can't I add one line of space between text? Why does Word create useless white space in between, when I hit Enter?
This is a guess, but it looks like the paragraph starting with "36" just fits on the page when there is no space above it. When you add the blank line, it doesn't fit anymore. There is probably a rule set somewhere that doesn't allow just a single line of a paragraph to be at the bottom of a page w...

Comment Post #281768 Yeah, I remember some time in the 1990s when I could get a whole Gbyte for only $400. What a deal! I don't have to worry about cramped disk space anymore. A Gbyte will last nearly forever!
