Welcome to the Power Users community on Codidact!

Power Users is a Q&A site for questions about the usage of computer software and hardware. We are still a small site and would like to grow, so please consider joining our community. We are looking forward to your questions and answers; they are the building blocks of a repository of knowledge we are building together.

Comment Post #289365 *"Here's your soup, but next time please don't make a mess"* has been shown over and over again to not work. It is interpreted as *"blah blah here is your answer"*. Your carrots simply don't work in this context. The only way to get the attention of people like that is to not allow them to have th...

Comment Post #289365 One of the pitfalls of Elsewhere is that they didn't enforce quality enough. Crap needs to be dealt with quickly and decisively. Link-only posts don't belong here. We don't want the OP to get the desired result from a crappy question, else he (and others watching) will be back doing it again. Tha...

Comment Post #288855 This was tried early on, and found not to work. Note that the communities that did import SE content are clumped near the bottom in activity. I think this is Writers, Outdoors, and Photography. Maybe there are one or two more. The search engines seem to ding us for having duplicate content. So...

Comment Post #285868 Define what you want, not what specific product you want that many here don't know. Also, this doesn't seem like a user-level question in the first place, although maybe it is valid depending on what this AdSense thing is supposed to do.

Comment Post #285699 Or even just hover over it. Often a "tool tip" will appear. The real answer to your question, @#53919, is apparently <i>"I didn't think of it, and I'm looking for instant gratification. I've found asking here is less work than actually reading documentation or otherwise trying to solve the probl...

Comment Post #285408 @samcarter: OK, I added some weasel words. That doesn't change the fact that this is either a very dumb question, or a very badly written one. It's not clear whether the issue is that anything happens when you click a link, that Chrome specifically run versus some other browser or app, or that the ...

Comment Post #285182 @elgonzo: So what do you suggest, allow anyone to post all over the internet and have the volunteers in all those places duplicate effort?

Comment Post #284876 This question is apparently about a particular software application, but you never said what that is. Or perhaps these words have particular meaning in some context, like type setting, which you also didn't specify. This really should be closed as <i>unclear</i> until the relevant context is provid...

Comment Post #284706 Whoever downvoted this, please explain what you think is wrong, misleading, or badly written. Silent downvotes do the site a disservice. The author doesn't know what to address, and other users don't know what shouldn't be believed.

Comment Post #284706 We are seeing the same problem here as there was on SE, which is silent downvotes for no apparent reason. If someone thinks this post is wrong or misleading, they should explain what that is. I can't fix what I don't know is wrong, and other's can't learn from a silent downvote either.

Comment Post #283664 I meant whatever is baked into your OS. The router can't block a particular program, but something running on your machine can.

Comment Post #281860 I expect the downvotes were for poorly asked or poorly researched questions, not because they were off topic. A large number of such questions showed up here in the last day, many making too many assumptions and missing obvious context. I think I only downvoted one of them, but did think about more...

Comment Post #281768 Yeah, I remember some time in the 1990s when I could get a whole Gbyte for only $400. What a deal! I don't have to worry about cramped disk space anymore. A Gbyte will last nearly forever!

Comment Post #281743 You make it sound like we're all just supposed to know what "OBS" is. That's not the best way to get help from volunteers.
