I don't have as much experience with trackballs, but it seems like https://old.reddit.com/r/Trackballs/ has a bunch of useful information. (more) |

Indeed! But it's not an SSD. I thought "hard drive" already meant spinny drive. (more) |

Good luck! Once you get past some boilerplate it has, it actually has a pretty intuitive API (compared to others like beautifulsoup which are themselves considered "easy"). Glancing at their docs, also, I think it's gotten a little bit easier since I last used it.
When finding the elements, I find... (more) |

Ah, got it. So it really comes down to figuring out a way to bulk import into DW at this point.
I tried searching a bit when I saw this question, and I was very surprised that DW docs don't have a whole section explaining how exactly to import markdown. They do discuss importing from other wikis, ... (more) |

Also, if DW is not cooperating on imports, you have two more "nuclear options":
1. Export a backup of DW. Change it to contain pages you want. "Restore" the backup. This assumes you won't hit the metadata problem again.
2. When submitting a DW page, have inspector view open and capture the HTTP r... (more) |

4. Lastly it sounds like there are some cases where multiple records are actually the same beer but different dates etc and need to be combined in a single page. This is trickier. If there's not too many such cases it would be easier to do it manually. If there's a lot, I think you would prob... (more) |

I think there's several things being asked here. Or at least it seems like any solution will almost certainly have to decompose the problem:
1. Iterate over the records in a spreadsheet, one at a time. You probably want to export to something simple like CSV or JSON if the original spreadsheet is ... (more) |

I agree that the apps in the links are the obvious answer. I feel like the best outcome here is that either the apps in the reddit thread can be posted here as an answer and accepted, or OP should edit the question to clearly state what additional requirement they have that makes those apps not work.... I agree that the question is not well written. However, it's a new user and what they're asking is a useful question (if rewritten). It's also something that SX unreasonably bans ("recommendation") so it's an opportunity to demonstrate why CD is better. So I tried to do an edit that improves it, and ... (more) |

Indeed it would. I tried to address these by adding points like "free service" and "not technically complex" - which in my mind would exclude commercial hosting and custom email domains.
As for the OS, I was thinking of some online service. If you're asking the OS, that sounds like you're about to... (more) |

Thank you! Weird, I don't have a `Setup WireGuard` in Proxy options. I have `Setup SOCKS5 Proxy`, `Setup HTTP(S) Proxy` and `Setup Orbot` so I think I'm looking at the right screen.

I tried installing RethinkDNS. It looks like a combination DNS/firewall/proxy tool. In order to apply network rules you configure, it sets up a local VPN on the phone, so that Android will route all connections to the RethinkDNS VPN, and then RethinkDNS will apply whatever rules you want before passi... That thread looks familiar, I've probably read it too while searching for switches.
I didn't want to clutter up the question, but yes looks like with HDMI you need EDID emulation on the switch, which adds complexity ($$$). As I understand, with VGA the computer can't tell anyway what's on the othe... (more) |

It's not "my" carrots. Constructive/positive feedback is a general concept, not my own invention.
Regardless, if the position of the site is going to be "stick over carrot", this should be clearly stated in the site rules. We can't have some people doing carrot and some people doing stick. For the... (more) |

I won't argue that there's a lot of crap on *elsewhere* that should be deleted. But IMO there is also a lot of non-crap that shouldn't get deleted. Incidentally, the *common* Q&A (with rep, votes, etc) concept provides many tools for dealing with false negatives - even if mods fail to close/delete cr... (more) |

I consider this approach dangerous for the long term success of this site, in that it would appear to significantly harm the new user experience and repeat a notorious pitfall of Stack sites (unfriendly/unwelcome). I've left some comments to expand it more. (more) |

The question seems quite clear to me. I think there is a common misconception that all good question must be long, but this is clearly untrue. If a question can be clearly stated in short form, there is nothing to be gained from adding filler to it just for the sake of length.

Interesting! If it's really the case that the problem is something else (I suppose only the original mod can really confirm that), it is probably worth creating a new close reason. I can't imagine that it's good for the new user experience if people get their questions closed and get misled about wha... (more) |

I disagree with this. It's strangely worded, and there is a bit *too much* detail. But the question is simply, "is it a good idea to clone Windows to a new SSD, or do I have to do a fresh new install?" and that's answerable and interesting.
I would say "obviously" the OP's current install is not b... (more) |

Usually, these jacks are designed to be used with phone-type earphones that have a mic as well. Otherwise people would have no way to make calls. So the jack probably supports both input and output. I used an adapter like this as well at some point and they work pretty well.

However, if frequencies were the problem, you wouldn't see the `3G` in your status bar. So presumably you do have some compatible frequency... But since your screenshot has 3G working, what's the problem? (more) |
— | 10 months ago |
Comment | Post #283292 |
There is actually not just one "3G" or "4G" but an array of frequencies in each "generation". Not all phones can receive all freqs, and not all carriers broadcast every freq from their towers. So if your phone supports 3G freqs A, B, C and your carrier likes D, E the 3G won't work.

This is kind of a broad topic. I tried to frame it as more of an overview and starting point for deep dives into each individual aspect, but my answer has still ended up quite long. I'm happy to consider breaking this up into multiple posts, if anyone thinks it would be useful.

I obviously did not ask the question for my own benefit, but to share some knowledge that took me a lot of time and effort to grok, and which is not well explained elsewhere on the internet. Are you looking for a better *language*, and are okay with figuring out what programs you will use to write and read it? Or are you more concerned with the software, rather than the specifics of the language (so long as it's not markdown)? I think these are two separate questions, and it would be bet... (more) |

Btw, I say this because there are two ways to answer your question: By taking everything you said at face value and just mechanically picking the closest thing (requirements), or by trying to read between the lines and figure out what it is you *actually* want (the context). When most people ask ques... (more) |

There are two aspects to your question: The background/context for what issues you've had with Markdown and so on, and the requirements you have for what you want instead. IMO the latter is more important, although the first part does add color and helps interpret the requirements where they may be v... (more) |
