Answer A: How can I force new Chrome tabs to the end of the list?
That extension is hobbled, but @Moshi linked to a different one, Tab Position Customizer - Modified in a comment, and this option has been working fine for me for more than a week. The extension allows you to customize a few things: - Tab opening position: always last (this is the one I want), al...

Comment Post #283820 I'll be interested in what you find. I force all my email to plain text because too much marked-up email poses accessibility problems for me (and also because it solves images and JS for free), but it's a blunt instrument. If you find something useful I look forward to reading your answer.

clarified that I mean tabs from links, not the "new tab" button

Comment Post #283719 Sorry, yeah -- I mean opening a link in a new tab. Sorry, I'll clarify. Thanks for the pointer!

Question How can I force new Chrome tabs to the end of the list?
When I launch new browser tabs from links on other pages, I want the new tabs to appear at the end, not right after the current tab. Chrome (desktop) doesn't have a setting for this (or at least not one I've been able to find), so I use the "New Tabs at End" extension. Google has recently revoked...

Comment Post #283664 Yeah, I questioned whether the router could block it. That would require that some sort of client ID (for the specific application) be baked into the request, and while I'm not familiar with the details of TCP/IP, I don't think that's how it works.

Comment Post #283664 Thanks for this answer. I hadn't thought to look at the firewall when trying to figure out how to disconnect without resorting to the cable. I asked a [followup question](https://powerusers.codidact.com/posts/283662) about that part of the problem. (There's a firewall at the *router*, and whatever...

Question How do I temporarily disconnect a Mac from the network without touching cables?
A workaround to a problem I'm having with an application on my Mac (desktop machine) is to disconnect from the network before launching the program. I headed over to the network settings to look for a way to do that, but didn't find anything like "disconnect" or "disable" in the UI, and I sure don't...

Answer A: Application check for updates will never succeed and blocks launch; can I intercept or bypass it?
samcarter gave me a clue in a comment by asking if the same thing happens if I'm not connected to the Internet. The software does detect that and proceed, fortunately, with the following message: Connection not available; click Help|Check for updates to adjust auto-updates Clicking "ok" here ...

Comment Post #283645 Oh wow, I didn't think of that! Disconnecting from the network allows the program to start. There's a message about how to turn off auto-updates, which turns out to be a lie -- the settings don't stick. But disconnecting from the network allows the program to launch. (I have a followup question c...

Question Application check for updates will never succeed and blocks launch; can I intercept or bypass it?
I have a software application (Trope Trainer, from Kinnor Software) that I installed on my Mac (OS 10.12) several years ago. I don't use it often but it's always worked fine for me. The application uses only local storage as far as I know; cloud dependencies weren't common back when this software w...

Question How do I clear a sticky "missed call" notification (older Android phone)?
My (older) phone is running Android 7.1.1. (In case it matters, the phone is a ZTE Axon 7.) I use the phone app that it came bundled with, "Dialer" v 4.2.001. (That's a really generic name, I know. I'm not sure how to get more identifying information.) As usual, the phone icon shows a red ale...

Comment Post #283324 Yeah, fixing that is on the to-do list. When we started we thought there'd be a lot more data import; we've now learned that bulk imports are a bad idea. I'd like to have a place for people to put an SE link, alongside Twitter, Discord, etc, purely as *information*, but we should adjust that curren...

Question How can I export a long Microsoft Teams chat?
I would like to export the entire history (thousands of messages) of a conversation from Microsoft Teams. There is no "save" or "export" functionality evident in the Windows client. I found some forum posts that suggested using the browser interface and printing to PDF, but when I did that I got on...

Question With Datenstrom Yellow SSG, how do I generate lists of tags and recent posts for my blog?
I would like to use a static site generator to create a personal blog. I'm new to SSGs (but not to blogs). Following some initial research and recommendations, I chose Datenstrom Yellow for its apparent simplicity (Markdown source and an easy "build" step to generate HTML, which I can then upload t...

Answer A: Office suites category
There seems to be consensus on a few things: 1. These questions are off-topic on Software Dev and on-topic here. 2. A lot of questions were asked (and some closed) on Software Dev before this community existed. 3. One motivation for the request for a category is to prevent these questions (if mi...

windows-10 is now a child tag of windows, so removing the parent here

Answer A: Should we use more specific version tags for software?
This is one of the use cases that motivated tag hierarchies. If we make `windows-10-21h1` a child of `windows-10`, then anybody searching for `windows-10` will also see the questions from child tags by default. (You can restrict it to show only the parent tag and not children if you want, though I'...

Comment Post #281794 @Istiak‭ yes, if it's on-topic where you ask it, go ahead. You might need to adjust the content for the community where you're asking it (I say that generally; I haven't reviewed this question with that in mind).

Comment Post #281819 Context is important. There are legitimate reasons to use WireShark in your *own* test lab for debugging, but using it on someone *else's* machines/network would be a problem. If you're asking about a sketchy tool, I think it'd be wise to be very explicit about how you're using it.

Comment Post #281788 @Alexei the wifi is (for reasons I don't yet understand) slow and spotty, despite not being far from the router. Mostly it's fine, but I got tired of video freezing during calls so I eventually ran ethernet.

Comment Post #281716 Could somebody propose some high-level guidelines for questions in such a category? We need questions to capture core requirements and not be too subjective.
