I copied everything from the old system to the new one. The Yellow "installation" is just a ZIP file that you unpack.
It turns out I had some wrong assumptions (and a little faulty memory) and I need to approach what I'm trying to do differently. I plan to explain in an answer. (more) |

Apparently the static site doesn't support search or contact pages; what's changed isn't the behavior but that I'm now getting error messages about it where I didn't before. Huh. But I've also learned that I can run Yellow on the web server as a CMS, instead of generating a static site, so I'm goin... (more) |

Thanks for the report. I need to get help from someone with database access to investigate. We've seen this sort of problem occasionally, but in the past it was on posts that were imported or where now-deleted users were involved, neither of which is the case here. (more) |

Those `<br/>`s in the output here made me wonder if this is happening when it's trying to build the sidebar, but the contact link doesn't appear in the sidebar and the output here is in the wrong order (search is at the top of the sidebar, not after recent posts), so I don't know what those `<br>`s m... Thanks for the tip. I tried all the way up to debug level 3 (the max the troubleshooting doc talks about), and it didn't emit any more information. (The debugging goes to the console; nothing interesting happened in yellow.log.) Here's the relevant section of the output, with successes before, aft... (more) |

Question | — |
Moved to a new OS version, didn't change project source, and now Datenstrom Yellow project won't build -- how do I debug this? I've been using Datenstrom Yellow on a Mac running 0S 10.12.6 (Sierra) to build a personal web site (mostly a blog). The self-hosted test site (runs directly from source) and the build (generated site for deployment) work fine. I have a "home" area and a blog, and I use the Yellow extensions for side... (more) |

A: With Datenstrom Yellow SSG, how do I generate lists of tags and recent posts for my blog? The answer turns out to be to add a sidebar, which is a separate element. First, you have to use the Berlin theme, not the default. This theme adds a line to `system/layouts/default.html`: yellow->page->isPage("sidebar") ? " with-sidebar" : "") ?>"> For some reason the blog templates don'... (more) |

Thanks @#36377 -- I don't have a lot of experience with managing firewalls, and was surprised that the Mac-native one doesn't support this use case, so I definitely appreciated the pointer to something that's easy and effective. As for Twitter, there are "Sam Carter"s but that didn't help me tell if... (more) |

Thanks for this suggestion. I installed Lulu and was able to configure it to always block the problematic application. I've set it to ask about other outbound connections, which I can whitelist as I go if I trust them -- this seems useful for passively monitoring for potential malware. (I mean, my... (more) |

A: How can I force new Chrome tabs to the end of the list? That extension is hobbled, but @Moshi linked to a different one, Tab Position Customizer - Modified in a comment, and this option has been working fine for me for more than a week. The extension allows you to customize a few things: - Tab opening position: always last (this is the one I want), al... (more) |

I'll be interested in what you find. I force all my email to plain text because too much marked-up email poses accessibility problems for me (and also because it solves images and JS for free), but it's a blunt instrument. If you find something useful I look forward to reading your answer. (more) |

Question | — |
How can I force new Chrome tabs to the end of the list? When I launch new browser tabs from links on other pages, I want the new tabs to appear at the end, not right after the current tab. Chrome (desktop) doesn't have a setting for this (or at least not one I've been able to find), so I use the "New Tabs at End" extension. Google has recently revoked... (more) |

Yeah, I questioned whether the router could block it. That would require that some sort of client ID (for the specific application) be baked into the request, and while I'm not familiar with the details of TCP/IP, I don't think that's how it works. (more) |

Thanks for this answer. I hadn't thought to look at the firewall when trying to figure out how to disconnect without resorting to the cable. Question | — |
How do I temporarily disconnect a Mac from the network without touching cables? A workaround to a problem I'm having with an application on my Mac (desktop machine) is to disconnect from the network before launching the program. I headed over to the network settings to look for a way to do that, but didn't find anything like "disconnect" or "disable" in the UI, and I sure don't... (more) |

Oh wow, I didn't think of that! Disconnecting from the network allows the program to start. There's a message about how to turn off auto-updates, which turns out to be a lie -- the settings don't stick. But disconnecting from the network allows the program to launch. Application check for updates will never succeed and blocks launch; can I intercept or bypass it? I have a software application (Trope Trainer, from Kinnor Software) that I installed on my Mac (OS 10.12) several years ago. I don't use it often but it's always worked fine for me. Question | — |
How do I clear a sticky "missed call" notification (older Android phone)? My (older) phone is running Android 7.1.1. (In case it matters, the phone is a ZTE Axon 7.) Yeah, fixing that is on the to-do list. When we started we thought there'd be a lot more data import; we've now learned that bulk imports are a bad idea.
